The start of open studios, we get to show our work in progress to friends and to the public
This iterative process is invaluable for personal development and for enhancing the overall impact of the project. It's through this practice that one can hone the art of delivering information effectively and engagingly.
Taking the opportunity to practice presentation skills is a commendable approach, as it allows for a deeper understanding of the material and a clearer communication style. With each presentation, it becomes increasingly apparent which details should be prioritized and articulated first, as well as identifying which sections of the project require further refinement.
Start
On the the day, of the Open Studios, I managed to get my 3D print collected from the shop and with a little adjustments here and there, my set up is ready for the week. The first day was hectic, I did not expect so many to come to the open exhibit, let alone my set up as I was situated in the deeper portion of the class. But luckily, my plan did kind of work where I placed my animation and renders as the side of the table so that I can at least catch some attention.
Visitors
Vikas and Andreas also brought along their guests as well and they also started the discussion on the potential I can bring to the exhibits, in terms of sustainability and interactivity. But also future improvements and concerns such as curators not wanting to have lights shined on paintings and maybe using statues and murals instead of painting. Some of the feedback I got was to expand upon the current trinket, do not limit yourself to one exhibit and maybe have it lead to other exhibits (if the visitor decides to explore more, that way it is much more curated)
Students
Majority of the visitors for my set up are 1st and 2nd years students. With the renders capturing the attention, my 3D prints are the talk of my project, as it is something they are able to interact with and are curious to my design process. Some of them asked for advice too on how to progress with the projects and what are the difficulties I’ve face, since they are my juniors, I gave them some advice on my experience as well as how to prepare themselves on their FYP.
This week has been bustling with activity, featuring open studios where I had the opportunity to engage with students from Year 1 and Year 2. It was a delightful experience discussing their projects and offering guidance on how to move forward. Their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives brought a vibrant energy to the studio, making it a truly enjoyable time for everyone involved. Sharing insights and advice with the upcoming talent was not only a blast but also a reminder of the collaborative spirit that thrives in creative environments.
Friends
I visited my classmates and friends to observe their project setups, and I was truly impressed. The colors were strikingly vibrant, and the way they assembled various elements into a single cohesive project was remarkable. Their talent shone through in the dynamic presentation of the project, with its varied angles and elevations that added a sense of dynamism. The overall effect was one of professionalism and a well-polished finish that elevated the project's appearance.
